This series comprises minutes from meetings conducted by two governing bodies that had jurisdiction over administrative matters related to the Immanuel Deaconess Motherhouse and Training School. The series is divided into two sub-series reflecting the two different bodies. Even though the Board of Trustees governed the entire Immanuel Deaconess Institute, which is not the collection in which this series is included, the decision was made to include the board minutes in this series because for much of its life, the deaconess home and training school were governed by the Board of Trustees. Subseries I: Board of Trustees. This subseries comprises typewritten minutes of the Board of Trustees for the Immanuel Deaconess Institute and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. The date range for the Board of Trustees minutes is 1936, 1941-1962. Minutes are missing for 1937-1940. It is presumed that a complete set of minutes is with other records for the Immanuel Deaconess Institute held by IDI's successor organization, Alegent Health. Generally the board met twice per year. In the 1950s and early 1960s, it met three or four times per year. For 1962, this series only has one meeting. It could be that it met more than once, but this set of minutes does not include that meeting. For the meeting held in February 1950, there is only an agenda. Minutes for the Executive Committee are from 1941-1962. It is not known if minutes exist prior to 1941, due to the lack of access or knowledge of the extent of IDI archival records kept by its successor organization Alegent Health. It appears that for the majority of minutes in this subseries, the Executive Committee generally met once per month. For 1941-1945 there was only one meeting per month, and in the 1950s and early 1960s there were times that the committee met more than once per month. Subseries II: Deaconess Council. This subseries comprises typewritten minutes for the Deaconess Council from 1933-1965 with the bulk dating from 1952-1965. In addition to Deaconess Council minutes, there are minutes for an early subcommittee of the Sister's Council called the Home Committee (see background). This collection did not include any minutes prior to 1933. It is not known if they do not exist or if the only copies are with IDI's corporate records retained by its successor agency, Alegent Health.
